I played soccer in my elementary school years and danced from age 3 to my senior year of high school. Having very little "sport-focused" background growing up has definitely helped me be able to meet clients right where they are and take the small steps with them to start their health journeys.
As a nurse, it is my responsibility to teach patients the basics of health and nutrition. However, I got to the point where I realized that I was not living what I was teaching and I needed to make a change before being able to help my patients do the same. I was not a high school or college athlete. I hadn't played a sport since Middle School. Quite frankly, I barely went to the gym before. I was just a normal person living a life of poor habits and subpar commitments. But that all changed when I found a supportive community and put in the work to overcome what I thought was just "genetics" and discovered a new passion along the way.
Over the last several years, I have felt a total shift in my motivation. While I love being a nurse, I have felt myself be more drawn toward the preventative side of healthcare (ie. nutrition, exercise, etc.) and find myself moving away from the reactive side of healthcare. I want to be able to make an impact while I'm wearing my coach's hat rather than wait for you to need me in my nurse's cap.
